Trip Description: We combine three modes of transportation on this trip to let you experience the best the Yukon has to offer. We'll canoe a section of the historic Yukon River, the route taken by fur traders and thousands of Stampeders to the Klondike Gold Rush of 1898. We'll travel by motor boat to historic Selkirk Village and afterwards, we'll drive into the Tombstone Mountains for some of the most spectacular hiking in the north. During our stay in Dawson City, the fabled City of Gold, you'll try your hand at gold panning in an operating placer mine. You'll have the chance to win your grubstake while being entertained by high-kicking can-can dancers in the turn of the century Diamond Tooth Gerties gambling hall. We'll also take in a number of attractions and historic sites in and around Dawson City. We'll greet you at the airport and transfer you to the Hotel in downtown Whitehorse. The rest of the day is at your leisure. We'll drive to Carmacks (180 km), where we'll start our canoe trip down the Yukon River. As we leave Carmacks, you'll practice the essential canoe strokes you'll need on this trip of a lifetime! In the evening we'll set up our first camp on the shore of the river. ^TOP Thanks to the steady current of the Yukon River current, we'll reach our goal with little effort. En route we'll stop to visit historic sites. As we paddle down river, we may meet First Nations people out on the land fishing and hunting. If we're lucky, we may see wildlife: bear, moose, beaver and even wolves inhabit this great land of the midnight sun! Tonight we'll end our canoe trip at Minto where we'll spend another night in our tents.
Today we'll head down river to Fort Selkirk by motor boat. One of the first Hudson's Bay Company Trading Posts in the Yukon it has been restored and preserved for posterity. As we walk through the village, we'll learn about how the trappers, traders and First Nations lived. Upon return to Minto we'll load the waiting van and drive north to the Dempster Highway. We'll spend the night at the Tombstone Camp ground. ^TOP A day hike above tree line leads us into the untouched hinterland of the Tombstone Mountains and offers us great vistas. With some luck we'll see hoary marmots, caribou and certainly many different species of birds. In the evening we'll return to our campsite for a hearty dinner and another night in this awesome wilderness. On our drive to Dawson City we'll enjoy the view from the Midnight Dome and we'll visit the goldfields and Dredge #4.Then we’ll try our luck at panning for the real stuff - gold nuggets! Of course you will not want to miss the excitement of a night's gambling and turn-of-the-century entertainment at Diamond Tooth Gerties! We'll spend the night at a local hotel in the heart of town. ^TOP In the morning, we'll spend more time in town for sightseeing and shopping before we leave Dawson City for our drive back to Whitehorse (540 Km, 335 miles). In the evening we'll arrive in Whitehorse where we'll spend our last night at Hotel. After breakfast, we'll bring you to the airport for your flight home, or you'll take off on your own for the next adventure. ^TOPTrip Options: Combination of tours "Chilkoot Trail" and "Yukon River & Dawson City" Price: CAD $3,150.00 (USD $3,109.37) The first 5 Chilkoot Trail Tours starting on Sunday may be combined with the "Yukon River & Dawson City" Tours. 14 days / 13 nights from / to Whitehorse.
