Trip Description:
Day 1
Itinerary: (7 days)
Day 1

We'll greet you at the airport and transfer you to the Hotel in downtown Whitehorse. If you drive your own vehicle, please check in to the River View Hotel at your convenience. The rest of the day is at your leisure.

Day 2

3 map chilkoot.jpgWe'll meet you at your hotel and drive to Carcross and over the White Pass to Skagway. There is the opportunity for an optional ride on the historic train of the White Pass & Yukon Route railroad from Fraser to Skagway. After a short visit to this historic town, we'll continue to Dyea, where we'll start our hike on the Chilkoot Trail. Today we'll hike to Finnegan's Point (approx. 3 hours hiking time).

Day 3

After breakfast we'll continue our adventure through the rain forest. There are lots of creek crossings, as we'll follow the banks of the Taiya River. This is a pleasant day with some easy and some fairly steep but short climbs. Continuing our hike to Sheep Camp (5 to 6 hours hiking time).

Day 4

Chilkoot 160.jpg
Today we'll leave very early and climb above tree line where we'll enjoy the superb view of mountains and glaciers. Later in the day we'll reach the top and cross the border between Alaska and Canada, over 1100 meters (3700 feet) above sea level! From here we'll descend over snowfields, passing small lakes, creeks and rock outcrops to reach "Happy Camp" (6-8 hours) in late afternoon.

Day 5

chilkoot02.jpgFrom Happy Camp to Lindeman is in some ways the best part of the trail, with expansive views, gentle grades (except for a bit of ridge-work above Long Lake), and a great feeling of accomplishment tucked away safely in your vest pocket  ( 4-5 hours hiking time).

Day 6

3 lakes from plane.jpgToday we'll continue our trek to Bare Loon Lake - a nice swimming hole in hot weather - and on to Lake Bennet where the Chilkoot Trail ends (4 to 5 hours hiking time). A float plane will pick us up by late afternoon for our spectacular flight back to Whitehorse. Upon arrival in Whitehorse, we’ll pick you up from the airport and bring you to your hotel where you definitely will enjoy a hot shower!

Day 7

After breakfast, we'll bring you to the airport for your flight south or you'll take off on your own for your next adventure. Better yet, you’ll continue on your next adventure with Nature Tours of Yukon.

The Aurora Borealis in Canada is without a doubt a phenomenon that nature has so generously bestowed upon us, and thousands of people every year make the trek to the Yukon countryside to see this dazzling display of magical lights. In fact, at Nature Tours of Yukon, our guests by and large come to Whitehorse to take part in a Northern Lights tour that will likely render them speechless. If you would get a thrill out of experiencing the razzle-dazzle of the Aurora Borealis firsthand, we would be just as thrilled to help you plan a customized trip.

You may have heard about the Aurora Borealis, or perhaps even seen some captivating pictures of the Northern Lights in books. We assure you that these photos you may have seen can in no way compare to actually viewing the Aurora Borealis in person. The magnetic pull of the dancing lights in the midnight sky will lock your eyes in the upwards position, as you will not want to blink for fear of missing one moment of such exquisite natural beauty. The Northern Lights have been inspiring people around the world for centuries, simply because they are so wondrously captivating and magical, that no man-made display of lights could ever match their twinkling beauty and grace.

Lose Yourself in the Aurora Borealis Could you use a little rest and relaxation? Perhaps you could use a little reprieve from the high-tech world we live in for some quiet solitude out in the Canadian Yukon. Imagine sitting in a heated tent surrounded by pristine wilderness, with the Northern Lights being the only illumination around you. If you long for some peace and quiet, let the sparkling lights of the Aurora Borealis transport you to that place in your heart and mind that feels content just being the observer.

There is nothing for you to do but simply enjoy the natural fireworks display of the Aurora Borealis. You and your fellow travelers can enjoy some hot chocolate and good conversation, from the comfort of a heated tent or cabin, without any ‘To Do’ lists to worry about or errands to run or people to call. When you take a Northern Lights adventure tour with us, you can check your responsibilities at the door and allow the natural beauty of the landscape to envelop you and intoxicate your senses.
