Make your next trip an Arctic adventure!

Take a tour on the road less travelled. Yukon’s Dempster Highway is the only road in Canada that crosses the Arctic Circle, passing through the beauty of a northern mountain wilderness.

The first stop on our way to the Arctic is Dawson City, the home of the Klondike Gold Rush. Try your hand at panning for gold and experience the excitement of the times at Diamond Tooth Gertie’s.

Expect an abundance of wildlife sightings on your trip along the Dempster Highway. Bear, moose, caribou, fox and many others will cross our path. In autumn you will marvel at the Northern lights dancing over Eagle Plains.

We’ll cross the Arctic Circle and drive through the notorious Hurricane Alley as we head to Inuvik. Then we venture even further north - on a newly constructed road to the village of Tuktoyaktuk on the shores of the Arctic Ocean.

Our group sizes range from four to seven participants, and our company is certified for Safe Travels by the World Travel & Tourism Council. For breathtaking landscapes, wildlife sightings and an immersion in Gold Rush history join us on our Arctic Explorer adventure.

Trip Itinerary
  • DAY 1 | ARRIVAL Arrival in whitehorse. The transfer to the hotel in the city center. In the evening your guide will meet you at your hotel and explain the details on our tour to the Arctic. (No meals included)
  • mapDAY 2 | THE ADVENTURE BEGINS The drive from Whitehorse to Dawson shows us already that tiny glimpse of what lies ahead on our way to the Arctic. We’ll drive along the famous Alaska- and Klondike Highways and stop an route to take photos. See the Five Finger Rapids and cross some of the great northern rivers: Yukon River, Pelly and Stewart River are on our route today. We’ll arrive in Dawson City late in the afternoon. (No meals included)
  • DAY 3 | GOLD RUSH IN DAWSON CITY This whole day is dedicated to Dawson City and its Gold rush history. We'll drive up the mountain to take in the incredible views encompassing the city. We'll visit the gold dredge and we'll try our luck at panning for gold. In the evening we'll visit a gold rush style gambling hall Diamond Tooth Gertie’s and watch the spectacular Can-Can Shows. (No meals included)
  • DAY 4 | "LARGER THAN LIVE" - LIVE After visiting Diamond Tooth Gertie’s and getting up close and personal with the famous sour toe cocktail last night, our small band of Arctic explorers is ready to leave civilization behind.
  • We’ll driving the Dempster Highway and get to see what all the fuss is about and experience firsthand why they call Yukon “larger than life”. Be prepared to be amazed.
  • We'll stop frequently to marvel at the immense landscape with alpine creeks, craggy mountains and treeless tundra until we reach Eagle Plains in late afternoon. Here we'll find the only hotel, gas station and repair service along the entire highway. This is not a luxury hotel, but a true northern truck stop, a tiny spot of civilization in the middle of the vast wilderness. (Bagged lunch included)
  • DAY 5 | ACROSS THE DOTTED LINE Today we cross the Arctic Circle. While the dotted line is hidden under a thick pack tundra, there are lots of other nice features to see. As there are: the Arctic Circle interpretive sign, panoramic views of the Richardson Mountains, tundra, more mountain vistas and in the far distance a snow hare – if we’re lucky.
  • We’ll keep driving north, and the “larger than life” theme gets to a “very, very much larger than life” stage real quick, when we reach the border with Northwest Territories. Once through the last mountain pass, we'll descend into the seemingly endless Mackenzie River valley. We'll cross the Peel River by ferry and continue to the Mackenzie River which we'll also cross by river ferry. Another hour and a half gets us to Inuvik and our Hotel for the next nights. (No meals included)
  • DAY 6 | TO THE ARCTIC OCEAN This will be another fascinating day! We'll drive the newly constructed road and head north towards the Polar Sea.  We’ll drive through the vast tundra and after 180 km we'll reach Tuktoyaktuk, a small First Nation village. In "Tuk", the Inuit (Eskimo) population lives a partly traditional life style with hunting, trapping and fishing but the oil and gas industry is also very evident in and around the town. The town is nicely situated in a sheltered bay on the Beaufort Sea. We'll meet up with our First Nation guide, who will show you and tell stories about their life in the frozen north. By mid-afternoon we'll return to Inuvik. (Bagged lunch included)
  • DAY 7 |  A DO-OVER BY FLY-OVER You'll depart Inuvik and fly to Whitehorse. At Whitehorse airport you will be transferred to your hotel in downtown Whitehorse. (No meals included)
  • DAY 8 | DEPARTURE After breakfast, you'll take off on your next adventure! (No meals included)
